Something remarkable happened today; the sun shone for more than 10 minutes, and it actually felt warm enough to wear shorts. However, whilst the under 10s were hoping for a fine performance and a tan, it was a tanning they got as they succombed to Eastleigh by shipping a number of goals.
Despite a reasonably clsoe first period where both teams traded chances on goal, the smurfs found themselves a few goals wrose off owing to Eastleigh's quicker and more direct offensive play. Although BWB passed it well and created good chances, the keeper and the posts denied the away team from breaking their deadlock.
The second period followed in similar fashion with BWB unable to take their chances and it was disappointign to concede a soft goal when possession was lost in our area.
The thrid period was...painful! For reasons unbeknown to any smurf young or old, the boys capitulated in dramatic fashion and gave away a number of easy goals. A few stern words were murmured in the break and all of a sudden the smurfs came alive and produced a much better performance and int eh process scored three goals to the home side's zero. What a shame it took three periods to get where we wanted to be!
Certainly for learning purposes, the group will take into their next training session the importance of intensity and will, and the need for sharp movement before and after taking possession.
