Good news for the young people in Bath; two sports bodies in the Bath area are teaming up to provide more and better sporting opportunities for primary school aged children.
The Bath & Wiltshire School Sport Trust has pledged funding and support to the B&NES School Sport Partnership to deliver a series of festivals and tournaments across a variety of sports for the next academic year.
The charity, which also plans to help primary schools deliver their PE programmes, will now work together with B&NES School Sport Partnership which currently organises and delivers a variety of competition opportunities for local primary schools. It is planned that in excess of 40 events will take place, covering 14 separate sports, and involving over 1500 pupils. The work of the Partnership links into the national School Games initiative that is driving the development of competitive sport across the country and includes the involvement of Sports Leaders from secondary schools and volunteers from local sports clubs, who help officiate and support the competitions.
Partnership Manager Dave Burston, “Our new partnership with the Bath School Sport Trust will provide additional capacity and expertise to further develop high quality competition opportunities on offer to all primary schools in the local authority”.

Trust Secretary Shane Kiely, “The Trust aims to raise the profile and improve standards of PE and sport amongst young people in the Bath area. The benefits of activity are well documented, but it is increasingly difficult to ensure that children are enthused, and that they have the opportunity to be enthused to embrace an enduring passion for sport. It is a real challenge, but the partnership with Dave’s team is fundamental to achieving our objectives and we are looking forward to the fruits of our investment of time and funds.”
