BWB put out two teams at the South West regional 7-a-side tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Both Wiltshire and Bath had reasonable starts with the Wilts team drawing and the Bath team winning against Devon 1-0. A case of tournament nerves seemed to then take hold as both teams put in below par performances against Bristol and Jersey. Bath actually took the lead through a thunderbolt of a shot from Ironman. However, a series of mistakes led to Jersey scoring two second half goals, despite each half only lasting 7 minutes.
This meant that both teams neded to win their final group games in order to progress to the semi-final. In the end Wiltshire could only manage a draw despite a good performance, and Bath put in their best effort by far but could not convert good play into a goal. With the score 0-0, Portsmouth went through on goal difference. Annoyingly, Portsmouth and Jersey made the final with Jersey winning overall on penalties in the end. Just shows how tight things can be at the top, and there was defintely a feeling of a missed opportunity. However, a lesson in competitiveness was certainly learned.
