U10s show strength

The mixed under 9 and under 10 squad hosted 2012/13 League Champions Westbury United this morning and put in a pleasing display in the last of the summer's sunshine.  With a large squad of 18 players, all were keen to showcase their abilities having enjoyed a productive few days in Bideford, and they did not disappoint the coaches or parents.

Some lovely combination play was matched by plenty of individual skill and we were treated to some meorbale moments.  Certainly, General Jago's marshalling of his team mates and steady presence helped to clam those around him and Sam M and Charlie terrorised the Westbury defence in the opening exchanges.

Best goal was probably from Josh P who smashed in a long range effort having won the ball in his own half.  However, there were plenty of highlights with a number of players scoring a brace and Evander getting a hattrick.  Dangerous Dan tested the strength of the new goals by smashing his efforts in off the bar.  Also pleasing was the performances of Will S and Lewis W playing a year up as they both contributed significantly.

With the score rising, the boys were given an extra challenge of only playing two touch and making 6 passes before they could score.  This seemed to keep the incentive in the game and ensured concentration throughout with the boys managing the tasks well.  A couple of goals followed but we disallowed them as it was on tne fourth and fifith pass rather than the sixth (sorry Harrison!)

Lookign forward to training on Weds already!
